Veras Shoes
Founded by Neil Morris back in 2010, Veras Shoes are a relatively new footwear brand – however, their timeless espadrilles do not suggest that the company is only in it’s fourth year of business.
Last summer we saw the espadrille make its annual surge in popularity, largely down to its classic style and suitability for the season. A cross between a shoe and sandal, the espadrille poses as an ideal choice of holiday footwear, aided by the signature rope sole that provides a light, comfy base.
Veras Shoes’ take on the classic silhouette includes a more substantial build, largely due to the incorporation of a two eyelet lace, rather than the traditional ‘slip-on’ design. Veras’ manufacturing process takes place in Spain, the home of the brand and the espadrille itself, where Neil works with a team of Iberian designers to come up with collections that maintain the classic style and authenticity of the shoes.
Veras’ SS13 collection maintains the same key ethos as previous seasons, with a focus on lightweight yet durable styles. A highlight of the range is the Ontinyent desert boot. The upper has been made from suede, like most other desert boots, although the iconic espadrille rope sole has been introduced in order to reinforce a summer aesthetic. Worn with a pair of slim chinos (preferably in a light hue) and a white Henley t-shirt, the Ontinyent would complete a relaxed and stylish spring/summer outfit.
Other styles, such as the Cohiba, are designed with slimline uppers, creating an almost plimsoll-espadrille hybrid. However, due to their woven materials, these shoes are built to last and will easily outlast your standard pair of canvas slip-ons
